Get Flashlight:

You can download Flashlight for free here: http://flashlight.nateparrott.com/

The main plugins I use are called:

  1. Shutdown - enables shutdown, restart, logout, and sleep commands to Spotlight.
  2. Wikipedia (EN) - append wiki to any search in Spotlight for a focused wiki search.
  3. Wolfram|Alpha Search - search big Data.
  4. Shorten URL - Quickly shorten URL and paste to clipboard.

There are tons more I still need to explore. Let me know your favorite finds in the comments below.

You are probably already aware of this, but Flashlight does not work with El Capitan, and is not likely to. Is there something else you recommend? Thanks!

Sorry to hear that Jim. Check out their website to see if they will upgrade their software for new OS.
I am not aware of any alternatives right now.
