Finder Shortcuts

The Finder keyboard commands you need to know in order to start your journey towards becoming a Mac Expert.

Main Shortcuts:

  1. ⌘ + N = New window
  2. ⌘ + W = Close window
  3. ⌘ + shift + N = create new folder
  4. ⌘ + A = Select all in that directory
  5. ⌘ + I = Get Info on selected item
  6. ⌘ + delete = move to trash
  7. ⌘ + Z = undo deleting or moving
  8. ⌘ + space = Spotlight (for now)
  9. ⌘ + option = Search Finder (Alfred will be ⌘ + space)
  10. Control + ⌘ + 1 or 2 or 3 - Toggle sort by type
  11. Spacebar = preview item
  12. Holding Shift or ⌘ to select items
  13. Press enter while highlighting any file/folder/song to re-name quickly the push enter again to exit editing
  14. Dragging folders while holding Alt/opt to copy instead of moving.
  15. Highlighting items with Shift & ⌘ button.
